It's really interesting people don't realize this, but federal spending, and I know you know this as a percentage of gdp, non defense discretionary spending is about half of what it was 30 or 40 years ago. Defense is less than half of what it was [30 or 40 years ago]. And of course the difference has been made up by expenditures mostly in health care, in Social Security and healthcare. (50:24–50:27)
