They threw out this whole language balance literacy curriculum nonsense that has infected our schools here in New York for 30 years. I thought we switched to phonics in. The last we did. But you were. We have 75,000 teachers in our system. It takes years to retrain them and we haven't done it quickly enough. We also let every school pick their own curriculum. We've fortunately under NYC reads, we're down to three reading curricula, but one of them is still not really it isn't the most rigorous evidence based, phonics based approach. (09:44–09:51)
