My voice advocating for responsible development is a powerful counterbalance to the lower 48 extremists who want to turn all of Alaska into a preserve instead of proper notice and robust consultation with those who stand to be most impacted. This rule and this new process have ignored those voices, especially Alaska natives who live in the north slope, despite numerous promises that indigenous people will have a seat at the table in major decisions made by this administration. To be very clear, I oppose the NPRA rule and the RFI process to expand special areas. This is a federal petroleum reserve, not a federal wilderness. (12:19–12:34)
