Well, first of all, it doesn't cover all government spending. We do the day to day operations of the government. So like defense, air traffic control, those sorts of things. So actually Most of the budget is Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare, which we don't handle. have anything to do with any of those three. They're actually in other committees. So when you're talking about appropriations, you're talking about what most people think of as the government, but only about 26% of total federal spending. (00:37–00:43)
