Analysis and teaching difficult concepts can mean teaching about racism and sexism, and to not do this would be a blatant disregard of the truth of our country's history and an erasure of our students lived experience. The only way to teach the complete story of The United States is to include the history of racism. After all, the founding of this country included both slavery and democracy. And denying the centrality of slavery and racism, just because it's uncomfortable does nothing but endanger the continuation and strength of our democratic society. (10:19–10:26)
