It is one of the great crimes against children in my view, going to this whole language based approach which all the evidence for a long period of time has shown that kids are not learning to read. And If you can't read by age 10, that is the most fundamental metric. If you are not at least a basic level reader by age 10, it's almost game over. Statistically speaking, it's terrifying.
