I was pretty stunned years ago when I became the chairman of the subcommittee to find out my own State, over 60% of the public health budget was coming from the CDC. The state just simply wasn't doing its part. I think The national number is about 50% [of public health budgets coming from the CDC]. We have some states. New York usually is a real leader in this area. Long tradition out of New York City, really, for many, many decades, over a century of excellence in public health. (24:16–24:19)
