Of course, you may have a faculty or a student body or an institution that tilts more left or More Right. But the whole point is that they're able to do that or not do that, and it's their choice. The moment that we become the kind of country where your ability to get a job or your eligibility to get cancer research funding or your visa has to do with whether the curriculum or the people in an institution conform to the political preferences of the person in charge of the government, when that happens, this becomes a second rate country. And it becomes impossible for universities to fulfill their mission, which is the pursuit of knowledge wherever it may lead, often in conformity with the values that the university was founded on.
