I've always been a moderate and really struggle sometimes with both the left and the right. And I think part of the problem in this country is that the left and the right can't get along. When I first got elected to the legislature in 2003, the balance in the state House was very close. And the moderate Republicans and Democrats in the middle could swing the vote, which brought about balanced legislation that was good for Vermonters. And that's what I would like to get back to.
