Thanks to the training of first responders, hiring additional nurses to help people on the street, and tireless advocacy, we've seen our laws strengthen, our investments in treatment increase, and most importantly, real results. We've made unprecedented progress getting help to New Yorkers struggling with severe mental illness, including those who are hardest to reach and most desperately in need. And while we've made the system work better to address severe mental illness and homelessness, I often hear from New Yorkers who say that they still see too many people in crises on our streets.
