We need to make sure our system is fair and actually supports their independence, especially for blind individuals. Right now there are disparities in how the SSDI and related programs treat people. And in some cases, Individuals are penalized for trying to work or even earn more than what they already make. That doesn't make sense to me. It shouldn't really make sense for anyone else. As governor, I would push for reforms that eliminate those disparities and raise income thresholds so people can work without immediately losing their benefits. (31:35–31:40)
