This lack of accountability extends into detention facilities as well. Members of Congress and local officials have legal oversight authority over ICE detention centers. That means we can show up without notice and inspect conditions, but members have been denied access across the country. When elected officials can't access detention centers, it becomes much harder to identify conditions that exist there. (04:32–04:38)
