In Michigan, they were taken away from the legislature. And now it is the purview of a commission that draws the districts, and it is a bipartisan commission. And so In 2022, when I was up for reelection after four years of governor with a very lopsided legislature, we finally had fairly drawn districts. We had reproductive freedom on our ballot. We amended our Constitution to protect abortion rights in the wake of the Dobbs decision. And we ran a really terrific slate of candidates from top to bottom. (09:09–09:19)
