And By June of 1982, there were 1 million people in Central Park who were protesting the absence of any negotiations between the Reagan administration and the Soviet Union. Now Russia, and that is the movement that ultimately drove Ronald Reagan to Reykjavik to meet with Gorbachev, was driven by the people who were going to be affected by this callous indifference to the role which arms control play in protecting the American people.
