And it felt and looked like Republicans just weren't willing to give up power even when Democrats won elections on top of that. We won a lot of presidential races, but they'd been incredibly close. So In 2000, Wisconsin was the second closest state in the country. In 2004, it was the closest state in the country. Both of those were under half a percentage point victories.
