Hundreds of thousands of Iranians were killed and they knew the US was partially responsible for it. In the late 1980s, a US Navy vessel, the Vincennes, shot down an Iranian commercial aircraft, killing 290 civilians. It took us years to admit that we did it, but we eventually admitted that the United States invaded Iran's next door neighbors to the east and west to topple their governments, Afghanistan and Iraq.
