And then you started to have disagreements between people like Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson. Hamilton was viewed as big government, although today I mean, we're way bigger than what he was talking about. Not even close. Jefferson was very small government, although when it came time to buy Louisiana, he bought it even though there wasn't a firm, explicit power in the Constitution. So, you know, whatever. They go back and forth. They didn't like each other very much, but Madison sided with Jefferson, and so they launched effectively the first political party in the country, which is not something the founders, like Washington, wanted to see.
