The survival of the west will depend upon that. And this is how we will turn the tides, by refocusing and marshaling our many shared interests toward our own national interest. Recent elections in places like France and Italy, the Netherlands and Germany signal that millions of freedom loving people around the world share our concerns about unchecked power and the erosion of national sovereignty. As leaders in government, academia, media and the arts, we must be prepared to steer their aims toward policies and mediating institutions that reduce government dominion over our lives and advance prosperity.
