We see it in America every time there is a natural disaster. I participated in this as a local citizen and I've witnessed it often as an elected official. This past September, Hurricane Helene made landfall in the United States. It was an historic storm. For five straight days, torrential rains and 100 mile per hour winds swept across the Atlantic, devastating homes and communities and businesses. It hit western North Carolina the hardest.
