97 years ago on July 4, 1929, the BSO held its first free July 4th concert on the Esplanade. 52 years ago in 1974, we started the fireworks spectacular. And On the nation's bicentennial July 4, 1776, we began a series of record breaking concerts with the largest audience ever to hear an orchestra play. Today, many cities will be hosting July 4th concerts, but ours was the first. It's going to be the best and this year it's going to be bigger than ever. (14:11–14:24)
