I have a real fondness for state government and the work that can be done there, especially in a state that has a very professional approach to the legislature like Wisconsin does. But for a long time, The legislature in Wisconsin had gerrymandered maps giving the Republicans what looked like a permanent majority in both the state assembly and the state Senate. Fortunately, thanks to the work of Governor Evers and strong Democratic leaders in the assembly and Senate, they were able to get fair maps in the state after the Supreme Court threatened intervening.
