Chinese military activity in Africa has increased significantly in the last decade. In addition to serving as the largest troop provider to peacekeeping operations in Africa, China employs thousands of security contractors on the continent. In 2017, the PRC opened its first overseas military base in Djibouti, about 7 km from the US base in Camp Lemonnier. CaP Lumineer.
