Because even though Carmen had entered the country, totally legally had legal status at the time that she was arrested, because of her wrongful conviction, she could have been detained and even deported. But the good news is, Thanks to your advocacy, the advocacy and voices of everyday folks like the bailiff in this case, because of advocacy from organizations like the Innocence Project, and because of thoughtful, fair, elected officials who just look at the facts and look for justice, Carmen is free now.
