Beginning last year, I directed state agencies to establish the Texas New World Screwworm Response Team. This team brought together livestock producers, veterinarians, wildlife experts and federal partners to to prepare in advance. Earlier this year, in January, I issued a statewide disaster declaration for all 254 counties in the State of Texas to mobilize resources and to strengthen Texas's prevention and response efforts in advance.
