Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers Raises Flag At State Capitol Building To Celebrate And Honor Juneteenth

Published | Video Starts at 28:56

As we gather for this flag raising, I want to recognize my colleague and our former caucus chair, Representative Sheila Stubbs, who worked so closely with Governor Evers to start the tradition that we have here today at the state Capitol. This small action has large, immeasurable and spiritual implications because it honors our ancestors and community by uplifting black history and our contributions to American democracy. While we are here to celebrate Juneteenth, I also want to take a moment to thank our Governor, Tony Evers. Since you were elected, you have faced insurmountable odds, but somehow you have delivered progress, especially for black Wisconsinites. (28:56–29:10)
