Nearly 200 years old. The locks and dam need modernization and maintenance. But even a one year closure to make these needed improvements would cost the U.S. economy nearly $180 million. The upper Ohio river is just so critical to our regional economy. Millions of tons move on that river. Billions of dollars of economic activity. So this is a really important project for our region.
