So after working for a couple years to pay off my student loans, I go to Chicago and I started working with a group of churches in the south side of Chicago. Steel, Steel plants had closed [in the south side of Chicago] in the early 80s and early mid-80s. And so I'd work with these churches, church based groups, developing civic leaders to then voice their proposals and vision for how they could make their community better and bring back jobs.
