“Simply because of what my lived experience is, I can approach problems in a way that perhaps other people have not thought of in the past because I can think of it both as the daughter of immigrants, as a Latina, as a minority woman in the United States, and as somebody with a STEM background, a science background, and who has taken care of patients for 10 years in the district that I am. So that is a background that elicits some automatic respect, in particular around my expertise in medicine and really allows me to argue for things in ways that people don't expect and that appreciate.” (40:23–40:41)
