These are controversial ideas, but I do think that the status quo is not working. We know that the status quo is. Unacceptable around us and that is the end of American exceptionalism. If we go another generation where our seventh grade students are at Chinese third grade student levels or Singapore's second grade student levels...that is the end of American leadership as we know it. And I think there's two decisive issues we're going to have to address for the next generation. One is the national debt, which is only growing with the uncontrolled nature of federal spending in the entitlement state. (13:14–13:27)
