Within the vacuum left by the FBI and its total unwillingness to explain what had happened, the media were able to leverage the shooting to serve its own political ends. On ABC, we learned that this happened because white men own guns. It was, you know, a 20 year old lone wolf, white wack job with easy access to a gun and we have to have a conversation about that.
