There's been an explosion in surveillance in one specific area, which is misleadingly named automatic license plate readers. So the idea is that a camera, either affixed to a pole or bolted the side of a building, or increasingly in a drone, takes pictures of a license plate and runs that information back to police headquarters, presumably, or corporate headquarters.
