And they view the Court as an extension of political power, not an institution that actually is supposed to follow the Constitution or follow the law. And in fact, They view the Court as an avenue to end run democracy because many of their most extreme policies are very unpopular. The voters don't want them. And so it's much easier to get a handful of unelected judges just to force it on the whole country than actually to engage in the difficult and messy business of democracy, of convincing your fellow citizens.
