And the reason Russia was building Nord Stream 2 was to be able to get natural gas directly to Europe without having to go through Ukraine. The entire purpose of Nord Stream 2 was to enable Russia to invade Ukraine. In December of 2019, I authored sanctions legislation that shut down Nord Stream 2.
