Ultimately, no matter what you call it, it's an unacceptable economic and environmental burden on the people and the places we represent, and one borne by Nevadans most of all. To cite just one particularly egregious example, The GAO has reported that it took the BLM staff over five years just to review and process 28 million acres nominated in Nevada in 2014 alone, most of which did not result in a lease. It doesn't have to be this way. Our country's energy consumers, taxpayers and public lands all stand to benefit from policymaking that further pumps the brakes on such speculation. (00:51–01:09)
