But as written, this bill requires the Interior Department to hold at least four onshore oil and gas lease sales per year in states including Nevada, where we already have extremely limited oil and gas resources. More troubling, If the lease sale fails because there is lack of eligible parcels or because it receives bids equivalent to less than a quarter of the lands being offered, this bill mandates that the Department hold another sale that same fiscal year. The ranking members amendment would remove this redundant and counterproductive requirement that simply stated, saves taxpayers money. (00:45–01:05)
