Even though the US started the semiconductor industry, today those vital chips are mostly made overseas own few. Fewer than 10% of chips are made in this country. Right now, 75% of chip manufacturing is in Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and China. It's meant severe shortages and long waits for those chips that are critical inputs in so many of the products Americans rely on.
