They needed Washington involved in that. We would not have had a constitution if Washington hadn't gone to Philadelphia in 1787 to be there, and The country would have probably just crashed on the Runway back in 1789 had Washington not been elected as the first president. But he believed in being a founder of a republic. He believed that wasn't that he wasn't ambitious, but his ambition was to be remembered in history as somebody who cared more about the creation of a republic than he did about his personal power.
