The California Supreme Court also affirmed my authority to supervise county sheriffs. After what happened in Riverside, Governor Newsom signed two bills that I sponsored to better protect our elections. AB 1664 requires county elections officials to alert my office right away if they receive a warrant or subpoena for election material. so we can step in if needed. SB 1418 makes it a crime to take ballots or voting equipment from election officials going forward, so we will not tolerate efforts to intimidate voters or interfere with the electoral process.
