Through the appointment process set out by the West Virginia State Code, the Judicial Vacancy Advisory Commission received applications from 12 people, a lot of terrific candidates across the state. And then from that 12, A list of four [candidates] was forwarded to me [for the Supreme Court position]. The commission interviewed the applicants and they went and did their vetting. And then our team and my general counsel's office, and I spent a lot of time reviewing his writings, talking with all the candidates. (02:28–02:31)
