California's 45th congressional district is home to 175,000 limited english proficiency individuals and more than 80,000 Medicare beneficiaries. We have made tremendous progress expanding access to high quality care through telehealth. However, Significant portions of my district have been unable to fully utilize the potential of telehealth due to barriers for people with limited english proficiency. These vulnerable patients spend significant time and resources overcoming healthcare communication barriers, and these patients have a higher burden of hospital readmission and are at a greater risk of medical misdiagnosis with telehealth use expecting to spread.
