Here are a few of the things we learned. 1. The counter sniper team is staffed 73% below the level required to meet mission needs. From 2020 to 2024 counter snipers logged about a quarter of a million hours of overtime. That's equivalent to adding about 24 more full time positions each year. So to manage these staffing shortfalls, the Secret Service relied on snipers for from other DHS components, including during the 2024 campaign season and the 2025 presidential inauguration.
