It was a beautiful time because we set up all the traditions that had existed now over the years. I went into administration, assistant principal and ultimately founding principal of Cesar Chavez Academy, which was the first alternative school, true alternative school, in the state of Texas. It's a model program and something that I'm extremely, extremely proud of. We couldn't save every student, but we saved a whole lot of them, and now they're successful people in our community.
