I had a 26 year military career, served all over the world, did a year in Iraq and ended up leading a task force of about 800 soldiers over there in combat, brought everyone back alive and then ended up in D.C. after that. I retired in 2010 as a full colonel after working on some of the counter IED capabilities to stop our soldiers from being blown up with roadside bombs. They were beginning to emerge when we left theater, my soldiers and I, they were a clear threat and I had some unusual expertise that led to me being able to address that threat. (01:55–02:07)
