“I grew up in southeast Iowa, down in Mount Pleasant, where my parents still live to this day. I spent eight years in the Iowa Army National Guard. I deployed to Afghanistan in 2004 with my unit. I was a company engineer down in Kandahar for a year. When I came home, had a chance to serve this country again.
