But for the past decade or so, outdated Medicare reimbursement policies have put ltchs in a vulnerable financial state. More than 25% have closed over the past 10 years, and many closures happen where no alternatives existed. Nearly half of affected communities and counties were left without ltchs, leaving patients in these counties with limited access to care. That's why I introduced the Saving Today's Acute Care Resources or the STAR act, and I'm pleased that this bill is included in today's markup. (01:22–01:31)
