Instead of ignoring them, instead of sending them on their way empty handed, we found ways to come together to get stuff done and to invest in them. I worked with Democrats and Republicans in our state legislature to increase funding for home and community-based services for the IDA community, securing an historic $355 million for this critical work a couple years ago and have built on that since. We work together to raise reimbursement rates and to raise increased wages for direct support professionals and pay them the wages that they deserve for their noble work. (13:55–14:12)
