However, The US Department of Agriculture recently sent a letter to the states, including Texas, announcing they will not be able to continue funding the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, due to the lapse in congressional appropriations. According to federal law, food programs like SNAP and wic, the Women Infants and Children program, may continue to operate even during the shutdown as long as funds are available. (01:02–01:19)
