Lo and behold, just a few years later, Uber and Lyft enter the market completely unchecked, not regulated. There wasn't a cap for how many Uber and Lyft drivers could be out there. And so then The yellow cab industry didn't really have the exclusive right to for street hails and didn't have the ability for ehails. This presented a huge problem because they're not able to pay back the loans that they took out in order to purchase these taxi medallions. (14:42–14:52)
