And the depth of the learning loss and the extent of the now ingrained comfort with students not being in the classroom, chronic absenteeism, had a disastrous impact on our students. That disastrous impact translated into the reality that Virginia, the commonwealth of Virginia, the cradle of democracy, had the lowest definition of proficiency in the nation. Parents were pushed out of their children's education. We had some of the lowest in person learning time in the country. We were one of the last states to get our schools fully back open.
