We wanted to protect people from bad outcomes and became overly fixated on process and procedure. Instead, what we've actually done is make it damn near impossible to build anything. We are still the country that built the Empire State Building in a year and the Golden Gate Bridge in four. Building things, homes, roads, bridges, highways, ports, harbors, towers, power plants.
